The talented,
outspoken and very confident poet.
”We as people are powerful beyond major, some people do not
realise that we are powerful and they do not want to accept it”. These are powerful the words of the young beautiful,
talented and very confident poet. Aphiwe Mjambane is currently doing her final
year at Boston Media House Sandton campus specialising in Advertising and
Journalism. Statistically Boston Media
House has proved that most of their student are at BMH for radio but they
actually change before or just after their first year, Aphiwe also is one of
them she came to Jozi for the same reason, she had a huge interest in Radio and
she was told that Boston Media House is the best place to do radio. But before
the end of first she had already decided to drop radio for advertising and
Journalism.
However Aphiwe was science and commercial student in high
school level of education, no one ever thought that Aphiwe will end up being a
creative student than being an academic student. For her high school education
Aphiwe went to a science college. Aphiwe started her education at Peffervill
Primary and then to East London Science College. And that time she was staying
with her Grandmother. Aphiwe spent most of her life with her grandmother who
was taking care of the colour family that was left to her by their parent.
That’s a reason she when she talks about her background she always mention the
fact that she was born in the black family and raised in a coloured family.
Today, Aphiwe told me a story of her life. Born in the rural
areas of the Eastern Cape her grandmother took her to stay with her for almost
two decade. Her grandmother was staying with the children of the family she
worked for. She was a mother to those kids because they lost their parents on
their early age. That is where Aphiwe learned to leave with different culture,
as unique as the culture were, Aphiwe was able to adjust to her black side of
the family. She also appreciates role her grandmother played in her life.
Aphiwe learned that her black side of her is very patient and motivates her a
lot, and encourage her to take a stand and work hard for whatever she wants to
have while her other side of the family the not really patient and they live
life for today. Very loving and spontaneous. They have main influence on her
life at this day and time.
Being the part of Student Committee and Active leader of
poetry sessions at Boston Media House, Aphiwe is familiar to the spoken words
lovers. Her definition of poetry is actions reversed into creative story
telling method that has certain people to understand. A spoken word is her
second love behind her dad. Like any
other she is dad’s girl, she loves her father to beats. “My father is the best
thing that ever happened to my life” giggling and blushing with much love on
her face. He father is the Extension
Manager at Department of Agriculture in the Eastern Cape. Her dad is a God
fearing person, cultural and love nature, when asked about the father, she screamed
“oh my goodness my father” continue…” he is my best friend I tell him
everything I g top him for guidance, he is wise, he the man of honour and
integrity, he is God fearing man. He is very traditional but he still God
fearing.
While Aphiwe loves nature too, nevertheless she is not
religious or spiritual driven person, Aphiwe still believe there is high power.
This cultural activist is the big fan of nature also, Aphiwe love making jokes
and making people laugh on one way the other. It’s could be by tell random joke
with her powerful poems. That where her creative side lies on. About her weakness as a human being Aphiwe
pointed out that she works on all her weaknesses to change them to be her
strengths.
She believes that she is a very selfish person when it comes
to her happiness; she does not consider someone else but herself. That’s the reason
Aphiwe hates women because they always have something to say about anything. Most of her poems were sexual oriented when
asked why they were like that she said at that point in time the subject she
could write about was sex, she was well informed with it that time. But because
of the growth in this activity now she writes about a lot of this and life in
general.
